American Industrial Real Estate Association

National nonprofit organization advocating for brokers. Founded in 1960, and now referred to as AIR Commercial Real Estate Association, it may be the nation's largest organization of industrial and commercial real estate brokers. One of the organization's first acts was to establish rules of professional conduct aimed at ensuring fair play in transactions. Members have access to a comprehensive line of contract forms, an Internet-based MLS, communication and educational vehicles. Site includes property data, upcoming events, downloadable forms. American Society of Real Estate Counselors

Founded in 1953, the organization serves 1100 members worldwide who hold the CRE designation as an information resource, network, and knowledge base. Membership is by invitation only.

Appraisal Institute

Professional standards organization with 92 chapters nationwide. Extensive information for appraisers or those looking for an appraiser, includes member directory, details on educational programs as well as professional development and designations, events, government affairs, and resources. National Collateral Database is a national web-based source of non-confidential residential property data. Commercial real estate research, valuation and consultation, software, liability insurance and more are available at a discount for members.

The Appraisal Journal, written by leaders in the appraisal profession, is available to anyone searching for information. Members have access to a virtual library with thousands of articles and other resources.

National Association of Realtors

National organization of more than 1,300,000 members who adhere to a strict code of ethics in the practice of the real estate profession. Possibly the largest professional association in the world. Only a member can use the copyrighted designation Realtor.

Founded in 1908, NAR membership is open to real estate professionals involved in residential and commercial brokerage, property management, appraisal, counseling and more. Specialty sections are available for appraisal and international real estate. The organization provides training, professional development, research, idea exchange, social and business networking. a member can join one of several institutes, societies and councils including CCIM Institute, Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers, Council of Residential Specialists, Counselors of Real Estate, Institute of Real Estate Management, Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council, REALTORS - Land Institute, Society of Industrial and office REALTORS, and Women's Council of REALTORS. National Association of Industrial and office Properties

Founded in 1967, the trade association for developers, owners, asset managers and investors in industrial, office and related commercial (industrial, office and mixed-use) real estate has more than 14,500 members in 53 chapters nationwide.

It provides networking opportunities, educational programs, research on trends and innovations and strong legislative representation.

NAIOP's sister organization, the NAIOP Research Foundation, is one of the industry's leading think tanks dedicated to conducting research assessing the trends, economic viability and needs of the built environment.
